Homemade Halloween Decorations. Halloween is just around the corner. With our girls birthdays being around the same time, and what started as a small gathering with a few spider webs hanging around here and there, has escalated. It’s now this big affair we host every year as a Birthday/Halloween celebration. And it takes a lot of preparation. Each year I also try to add one of our own Homemade Halloween Decorations 👻 too, which adds to the fun.
Over the years we have accumulated quite a collection of Halloween Decorations. This includes but most certainly is not limited to; Large animated Witches, a huge spider that has legs spreading across the lounge ceiling, crawling zombies with missing limbs, hanging animated Clowns (very freaky), ghosts, skeletons and so much more.
Only in more recent years have we tried to get a bit more creative and make our own decorations to add to the growing amount of Ghosts, Ghouls and Witches. Last year I made this Dementor from Harry Potter (we’re big Potter fans in this house). This picture was taken during the drying process but it looked so much better suspended from the ceiling in the corner of a room, leering over people as they walk past.
I wish I could take credit for this creativeness, but I can’t. Although I made it myself, I got the idea from a YouTube homemade halloween genius and fellow Potter fan, Becca Beach. She makes all kinds of crazy and amazing things. From Harry Potter floating candles & Granny makeup and costume to edible Halloween Treats. Check out her homemade Dementor video at the bottom of this post.
I’ll be heading to her videos for ideas again this year.
It’s time for Homemade Halloween Ghosts
This year, I’m going to attempt to make some ghosts. Complete with lighting to hopefully make them look like they’re glowing (ooOoo spooky) but we’ll see how that goes when I get started.
I’m planning to document the whole thing with instructions on how it’s made so expect to see a Homemade Ghost post soon.
Update: you can now see how I got on making the Hanging Ghosts here.
Halloween Costume Ideas
Each year we do prizes for the best adult costume and the best kids costume. Last year we had some real crackers; Pumpkin babies. Hand made Star Wars Yoda costume for our toddler. A couple of exceptionally scary Clowns that pretty much freaked everyone out and made children cry. A Steam Pump style vampire (myself) and a Dinosaur.
We’re hoping this year will be even better. I’ve got some great ideas already for my lot, but you’ll have to wait to find out what we decide on.
How it’s made – Creepy Dementor
I would love to have given you my own Step by Step guide but it was nearly a year ago and unfortunately, my memory is not what it used to be. Although I will say it took a lot of cheesecloth and a lot of starch!
So, check out Becca Beach’s video below on how to make a Dementor and kick your Halloween off with something creative.
